USPS Saturday Delivery:
Right now, USPS only delivers Priority Mail items and Priority Mail Express on Saturdays. There is no mention of media mail items, first-class mail and retail ground/Standard Post aren’t mentioned. It is only mentioned that Priority Mail items are delivered in 1 to 3 business days but there is no guarantee for this. The cost of this service is $6.65 at post offices and also online. However, as already mentioned Canada Post is soon going to end their Saturday delivery. That was the only way for the USPS to survive. USPS suffered a loss of $8.5 billion in the year 2010. In the month of February this year, it will be ending its First-Class mail delivery on Saturdays from August. This means the delivery of Express Mail, mid-order medicine, and packages will continue on Saturdays. On the other hand, USPS will no longer deliver bills, cards, letters, and catalogs on Saturdays.
The postal service has thought many times about ending the mail delivery on Saturdays. Following a five-day delivery schedule, USPS would be able to save $3.1 billion every year. Six-day delivery isn’t needed as the number of mails has decreased year on year. Ten years from now, five mails were received by an average household. The number has come down to four and it will decrease further with time.
Under the five-day delivery schedule, USPS will stop delivering at street addresses – either residential or businesses. No doubt, these changes will have some positive as well as some negative impacts. The reports by Postal Regulatory Commission and GAO state about this particular issue ;
- USPS will be able to save $3.1 billion in a year
- The volume of mail will be reduced. It will lead to a loss of $600 million in a year.
- 1/4th of the First-Class m and Priority Mails will be late at least by two days.
- Negative impact on local newspapers, business mailers, etc – those who depend on USPS’ Saturday or Sunday delivery.
- USPS will be just like other postal agencies that don’t deliver on Saturdays.
USPS Saturday Hours:
The postal service delivers all the mail on one route. That’s why there is no difference between the post office Saturday hours and hours of the other days for those who carry letters or mail. There are people who ask at what time they’ll receive their mails on Saturday s. there is no answer for this as USPS has no fixed time to deliver their mails and packages.
